Originally from Connecticut, now living in Las Vegas after living in the San Francisco Bay Area for 9 years, I have been a professional web designer and graphic designer for 12 years now. After working for agencies and companies for 11 years, I decided to open up my own web design studio. I got my start in the design world in a pretty untraditional way. I went to the University of Hartford and studied graphic arts as my major, but when I graduated I moved to San Francisco to join a band. I had been playing the guitar since I was 8, and it was what I really wanted to do with my life. After designing some flyers for my own band's shows, some other bands asked me to design some flyers for them, and I did at no cost hoping to get on some of the bills these bands were playing. Well, what happened was an advertising agency in San Francisco saw the flyers I was making for these bands all across the city, did some inquiring about who made them, and happened to get my name. They offered me a job, and since I was barely making enough money to survive, I decided I would take it.
Now, this was my first "real" job, and, it was a good one. I was working on advertising campaigns for The Gap, The Sharper Image, Levi's, Old Navy, and some other pretty big companies. Also, at this time was the big dot-com boom of the early 90's, and with San Francisco being a major hub in the technology world, I was thrust headfirst into web design as well. And, since there where no real "experts" in web design at this time, it was a good time to learn how to use this new medium. But, after a few years my band was starting to become more popular, and playing out of state more and more, and since it was my first love I left the job for the band. Even though it was a pretty big agency, I still have no qualms about leaving because I learned a lot working on some major campaigns and some early enterprise web sites.
Well, after a few years of playing music I was getting tired of running around the country and was thinking of working in the design world again. I had been keeping up with the trends, making some album covers for bands and some websites as well, but was not really involved in the world of design anymore. Then, sometime in early 2004, while on tour we had a stop in Las Vegas. At this time, the band I was in was not really getting along anymore, and I kind of went off by myself to explore the city. I fell in love with Las Vegas, and when the van finally got back to San Francisco, I packed my things, quit the band, and convinced my then girlfriend (now wife) to move to Las Vegas.
When I first moved to Las Vegas, I got a job at an agency right away, and was in complete shock. This agency, from my personal experience, really had no idea what they were doing, and they had some major clients, like the Stardust, the Hilton and all of Trump's casinos. After a few weeks of working there, I made the decision to leave, as the company really was a mess. So, I started freelancing around town, going in to some agencies to do some work when they had designers on vacation, making websites, logos, etc.. for small businesses in Las Vegas, really just enough to get by. Then, I got a call from Aristocrat Technologies, which is one of the largest slot machine manufacturers in the world.
I got a job there in the marketing department, working on all their major ad campaigns, tradeshows, and doing some really cool things for a really cool company. During this time, I was still doing some freelance work as well, doing some pretty big websites for Las Vegas Sports Magazine and Cheryl Davis and Associates. After about 2 years of working there, I was getting the itch to start my own company working with businesses in Las Vegas on their logos and brand identity, graphic materials and websites. Living in Las Vegas for about 4 years I was pretty much in shock at the quality of web design and advertising in this city, and knew I coudl do a much better job then most of the companies out there. So I decided to start Rosiedog Creative Design Studio (and, yes, I do have a dog named Rosie, hence the reference).
Now, after being in business since April of 2007, I could not be happier. I have worked on some great jobs with some great companies, and look forward to continuing this and growing my business.
